I recently had a very vivid and sudden recollection of a kid's picture book I read when I was pretty young... 7 or 8 maybe? Which would have put it back in the mid-1980s. I've been looking a while now, and I can't find any record that it ever existed.

The story revolves around a guy being frustrated with everyone in his town always putting him down (I think about his inventions?) and so he builds a giant robot that looks like himself to get revenge. At one point before the giant robot, there was a pet show, and he brought his robot bulldog. I can see the robot bulldog very clearly in my mind.

I thought "Wait And See" might have been the title, but that hasn't turned up any results. It was a recurring theme of the book though, someone would laugh about the guy's latest failed invention, and he'd say "Wait and see."

Most of what I remember about it though was the illustrations. It was very stylized, and appeared to take place in like, early 20th century America or the UK... lots of bowler hats or derbies, big curly moustaches, and I think pants with stripes. Gothic or victorian houses. Elaborate brass machinery. I think the illustrations were also kind of monochromatic. Might have been just line art with an ink or watercolor wash, if that even, but they were very detailed and quite interesting. For some reason, I associate it with Tommy dePaola and Maurice Sendak, although I don't think they're actually involved in any way, or that the art styles are even that similar. Maybe just that lack-of-perspective kind of illustration where everything is in flat planes, like layered scenery on a stage. Or maybe I was just reading a lot of those guys around the same time. Who knows?

Looking for what is essentially real person fic about when someone is briefed on the Stargate Program.  In particular, I would love to read something about Barack Obama being briefed, since he is a sci-fi nerd.

Actually, I would really enjoy reading anything about disclosure (whether individuals are general public), whether it's original characters, crossovers, real person fic or even self insertions.  I looked at the tags and didn't find one for disclosure, but I hope there are stories out there about it.

Thanks in advance for any recs.  :)

Hi,

I search all of fics which speak about the relation-ship between Jack and Jacob. I read the stories of this topic but I suppose that there are new fics since 2011. :)

I prefer the fics which don't speak about "Threads" and the death of Jacob please.

Thank you in advance

Below are some basic posting instructions. If you're still uncertain about the process, AO3 has a tutorial for posting new works to collections and challenges.

The main page for the 2017 Jack/Daniel Ficathon can be found here.

The overall page for the umbrella collection of all the Jack/Daniel Ficathons is here.

Posting Before the Due Date
If it's before the due date, please post directly to the current year's subcollection (so that we can reveal all the works together). Go to the subcollection's page and click the button POST TO COLLECTION. This will load the Post New Work page as usual, with the collection already filled in. Don't forget to include your recipient's name in the 'Gift this work to' field! (It's OK to include even if they don't have an AO3 account.) The collection will be moderated until the scheduled posting date of August 27, 2017.

Posting On/After the Due Date
If you're uploading the work to AO3 for the first time, you can do either of the following: (a) Click the POST TO COLLECTION button at that year's collection (as described above). (b) Click the POST NEW button on your Dashboard, and put the collection name (jd_ficathon_xiv) in the Post to Collections/Challenges field. Don't forget to include your recipient's name in the 'Gift this work to' field! (It's OK to include even if they don't have an AO3 account.)

If you're adding a work that's already posted to the archive, all you need to do is connect the existing work to the collection. To do that, go to the work's page. Right above the comment area on that page, there's a row of buttons, including Add to Collections. Click that button, in the input field start typing "jd_ficathon" -- without the quotation marks and with the underscore -- and pick the year/number you wrote the fic for from the dropdown list. If the system doesn't offer to autocomplete the collection name, type it in yourself. This year's name is jd_ficathon_xiv. (For prior year's collections names, see the Collection FAQ.)

Twisted up in Golden Strands (Les Misérables - All Media Types)
written by [archiveofourown.org profile] samyazaz, performed by [archiveofourown.org profile] RsCreighton, [archiveofourown.org profile] SomethingIncorporeal
Summary: It starts like this: with Enjolras's father, drunk and desperate that his only daughter marry before she becomes a spinster, accosting a wealthy-looking stranger at the market and directing his attention to her.
With a thoughtless boast, her father crying, "Look at her there in the sunlight, look at her hair, see how she turns straw into gold? Isn't she beautiful?", too loud and too bold for the crowded marketplace.
With a knock at the door, some days later, and a man in the king's livery standing at attention on the other side, reading a decree, and the sudden sense that the world has dropped out from under Enjolras's feet.

A Day in the Life (Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America (Movies))
written by [archiveofourown.org profile] dapatty, performed by [archiveofourown.org profile] Lucifuge5
Summary: What it says on the tin with: Shenanigans! Action! Adventure! Romance! Kissing! (Sam and Bucky's lives are EXTRA, OK?) SO EXTRA

Sergeant Barnes and the Winter Soldier (Captain America (Movies))
written by [archiveofourown.org profile] bluegeekEM, performed by [archiveofourown.org profile] madnads
Summary: Not long after his capture during the war and subsequent status as a lab rat, Bucky Barnes begins to see him. Bucky doesn't know exactly whats going on; what he does know is that the man shares his face, looks like a ghost, and Bucky seems to be the only one who can see him.

shine brightly in your eyes (My Chemical Romance, Bandom, Frank Iero and the Patience, frnkiero andthe cellabration, Comics Industry RPF, Gerard Way and the Hormones)
written by [archiveofourown.org profile] akamine_chan, performed by [archiveofourown.org profile] Tipsy_Kitty
Summary: Gerard spends a lot of time looking out the window of his art studio, watching the New York City street below. And maybe has a little crush on the guy who keeps giving him parking tickets.

Paw-lease (Teen Wolf (TV))
written by [archiveofourown.org profile] kellifer_fic, performed by [archiveofourown.org profile] dapatty
Summary: Stiles thinks about Scott when it happens, tries to get some, y'know, perspective. He thinks about Scott, that there are worse things that can happen when you get hit with an unexpected dose of something. When the device that had been left behind as a last little screw you by the fae they'd been dealing with blew up in his hands he could've been reduced to tomato paste on the walls.
Instead, he has a tail and little pointy striped tabby ears on the top of his head.

I've Found a New Baby (Rivers of London - Ben Aaronovitch)
written by [archiveofourown.org profile] thefourthvine, performed by [archiveofourown.org profile] knight_tracer
Summary: Itís an embarrassing clichÈ, I know, but there was an actual basket, made of what looked to be actual wicker, actually sitting there. It was oval and large and had spaces for handholds on either end; for a minute, I thought it was full of laundry, and my mind spun an image of a ghost laundress. Then the small hand emerged from the basket, waved around for a minute, and smacked down again.

I went up to Chicago a couple months ago and keep forgetting to post this. I spent a day at the zoo and conservatory in Lincoln Park near the lake shore. I nearly didn't bother with the children's zoo, but I ended up over there looking for something else. The trails through it are set up like a woodland trail--sort of narrow and winding through a lot of birch plantings, and covered in bird poo. Near one stand of trees, the zoo had posted a few signs saying basically "yes, we know the paths are messy and please also don't bother the herons above you; those aren't ours."

Apparently black-crowned night herons are on the Illinois state endangered list, but there's been a flock of them nesting in the zoo and somewhere else further south in the park for the last few summers.
