First of all, there is a wealth of awesome new due South podfic available for your (and my) listening pleasure. \o/
luzula recently ran the first-ever due South Podfic Exchange, and the awesomeness went live on the 8th of this month. There's F/K, there's Ray/Ray, there's gen, there are crossovers, there are femslash pairings (yes! more than one!) and humor and horror and intriguing exploration of supporting characters. Whatever you like, there's something here for you.
You can find all of them at the dS Podfic Exchange 2013 collection on AO3.
I recorded two stories featuring Maggie MacKenzie for
podfic_lover. Out of Season by
joandarck (I miss you, Joanie!) explores the events of "Hunting Season" from Maggie's point of view. This was a fun challenge, since Joandarck used dialog quotes from the episode as scene headings, and I did a lot of new-to-me things in merging the matching audio clips from the ep into the podfic. I need to add a huge thank you on the AO3 post to whoever it was that supplied the MP3 audio files for all of the S3 and S4 episodes, way back when.
lamentables, was that you? The second story is an ep tag,
basingstoke's Rabbit Jumps Out the Window, a late night phone conversation between Fraser and Maggie. Both fics are F/K, but the pairing is not the focus of either story.
And I received a marvelous reading of
china_shop's Where There's Smoke (F/K) read by
desireearmfeldt. She did a fantastic job of voicing the rich layered emotion and tension between Ray and Fraser. Check it out and tell her she's wonderful -- and so is China_Shop, whose writing I deeply love. :-)
As for the future, and my own fannish participation, I have committed to completing three (THREE!) long-ish podfics -- and possibly more -- over the next few months.
For
summer_of_giles (BtVS), I'll be doing "Ghost Story" which is the first fic in Vatwoman's Watcher Series. My posting date is July 17th. Eventually I'll record all three of the completed stories in the series (the fourth is unfinished, presumably to remain so), and it'd be lovely to do more than one for SoG, but I'm not making promises. I'm tickled silly that the lovely and talented
katekat has offered to make cover art for the audiobook (which I'm determined to learn how to make; surely this is something I can conquer). *happy dance*
For this year's
ds_c6d_bigbang, well, this is where the "knowing your limitations" thing comes in. My writing mojo seems to be entirely offline at present, and until I get my neurochemistry settled onto whatever antidepressant meds/dosage it requires (which is taking even longer than it needs to, and it's never better than lengthy in the best of circumstances) I'm not even going to try to get my due South rodeo AU done for this year's BB.
However, I have committed to TWO podfics of 20K+ words each for this years BB. All of the myriad obstacles that tripped me up last year (and until I got my house back to myself this year) have now been eliminated or at least managed, and there is no reason I can't do this. I KNOW I can do this. *\o/*
The first will be
aukestrel &
kelliem's Wide Open Space, which I love like burning. It's a crossover between two C6D microfandoms, Getting Married in Buffalo Jump and Paris or Somewhere, and the pairing is Alex/Christie (played by PG and CKR, respectively).
As for the second... I have no earthly clue. What do you think I should do? Suggestions? Requests? Anything in dS/C6D is eligible. My usual restrictions apply (I'm an F/K OTP-er, etc), but that leaves a wide-open and very rich field of prospects. An older fandom classic? Something recent? Canon or AU or crossover? The fic has to be at least 20K words, and I'm more likely to do it if it's not wildly longer -- like, 30K isn't daunting, but 40K-ish is probably an outer limit. Whatcha think?
