Passing For Normal

My 55th birthday is coming up. (Wow, that feels about a decade older than 54. Huh.)

Anyway, I've been using the same set of Corelle dishes I got when I was a broke young thing of 20 or so, and I've wanted for a long time to get myself a nice set of grown-up dinnerware (other than the family china, which is incredibly old-fashioned -- inevitably so, given that it was my grandmother's, and then my mother's, so it's ancient -- and actually kind of ugly *g*).

I've been looking on and off for the last few years, but everything I really liked was crazy expensive, and the stuff I could afford looked like I'd get bored with looking at it within a few years.

But! A few days ago I finally found a set that I really like! I sat on it for a bit, and kept going back to look at it and make sure I was still in love with it, and yep, I still really, really like it. So I got myself a birthday present, and this 16-piece set is on its way to me and will be arriving next week. (Note that the bits that look purple in the picture are actually black.)

In such a grim and sobering week, it's nice to have something simple and happy to think about. :-)
