- I am able to live in my house, where the plumbing is tenuously patched. I can leave the water on most of the time I'm awake, and have to shut off water to the house only while sleeping. This is kind of a huge improvement, and I am greatly relieved -- though I'm still keeping the just-in-case water jugs filled.

- Dan the Man got bids to have the whole house replumbed (I live in a big double-wide mobile home and Dan & Suzi are my dear friends and landlords; it's a truly awesome friend who buys you a house, I'm just sayin') and selected a plumber both he and I liked very much. There's nothing like a mobile home to bring out classism in people, and this guy showed none of that. Also he's a long time local; people know and recommend him, and his price was fair. Don't know yet when it'll happen, but this month, anyway. Woohoo!

- Recuperation from my septoplasty five weeks ago continues to progress very nicely, and I am able to use my CPAP and get plenty of sleep! Yay! However, I am ready for the swelling to completely go away. I want my regular less-nasal voice back. I still don't sound quite like me yet, and it's getting irksome.

- But I've managed to record podfic successfully in spite of the nose-and-voice challenges (no small thing). I will be done with DSSS early, which is positively astonishing if you know me at all. And I got beta-lucky, omg, you have no idea. <3

- I'm also doing a couple of DSSS fic betas, which pleases me, and I have time for more, if I should be called upon. Coolness.

- Indy Anna Jane, beloved goddog for whom I often dogsit, recently turned twelve. TWELVE. She's a Rottweiler, and ten is a long life for them. She was also born with a hypoplastic trachea, which means her windpipe is about 3/4 narrower than it should be, so her activity levels have always had to be carefully managed and it was expected she might be short-lived. But Indy is an exclamation mark with fur, and she defied all expectations. She's vibrant and clever and hilarious and one of the shining lights of my life. Twelve years with her is a gift, and everyone who knows her celebrates it.

- Unfortunately, not long after her birthday, Indy tore a cruciate ligament in her left rear leg. She is too old and her respiratory system too compromised for surgery. We are waiting to see if she'll recover enough to stay with us a while longer, or if it's time to let her go. She remains cheerful, which is a hopeful sign. A lot of my focus these days is on being there for Suzi, her "mom" and the one who will have to make the decision whenever the time comes. It helps to feel like I'm being useful.

- My own bit of California, up on the north coast, not far below the Oregon border, is getting rain. Lots and lots and lots of rain. While we hadn't been hit as hard by the drought as other parts of the state, we were still in trouble, and this copious rain so early in the season is relieving a fair measure of anxiety. May the weather gods see fit to keep it coming, please and thank you kindly.

- I'm actually getting occasional things done around the house. It's amazing how much difference it makes when you're a) no longer severely anemic and b) getting restful sleep. Holy moly. Who knew? A person could get used to this. :-)

Hi. I'm doing okay. How are you?
