Thanks to all who offered birthday wishes and felicitations. They were much appreciated. :-)
Gotta say, 56 doesn't feel at all different from 55 -- a marked contrast to last year, where going from 54 to 55 felt like a minor occasion. Guess I'm coasting along for the rest of the fifties; I'm cool with that.
I managed to give myself a mysterious minor ankle injury -- strain rather than sprain, I think? -- the first I've ever had on the inside of an ankle. Odd. Stood up from my desk, after a day spent doing nothing other than I usually do, and yowch. But like I said, minor, so I've been doing the rest / ice / compression / elevation thing and it's been doing the expected slow (sloooow) but steady soft-tissue recuperation thing. Middle-aging: Not for wimps. Apparently.
I keep thinking about the movie meme that's going around -- Anyone who feels like it should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on obviously).
And I can't for the life of me come up with more than nine.

Not trying to pick best movies or most favorite movies (though some of them are), but if you're looking to understand me, I imagine that list pretty well sums it up, for better or for worse.
Feel free to ask about any of them, if you're curious.
Climate change has arrived in far northern coastal California, where we're getting three-day heat spells that are pretty much unprecedented. Historically, it may never get above 80F in a given summer, and those years when it does, it's generally only once or twice, a day at a time. We've already had three (four?) hot spells that have been in kissing distance of 90F, and it's not even June yet. Freaky weird. And uncomfortable in a place where nobody has air conditioning, because nobody ever needed it. Fortunately I'm not far inland, and on a hilltop overlooking a river valley, so it always cools down nicely at night. Right now the house is pretty much wide open with three fans running. By midnight when I head for bed, it should be downright chill in my bedroom, for which I will be infinitely grateful.
How are y'all doing? What's making you happy this week? What's making you sad? What do you hope for? What or who do you miss? Tell me something I don't know, if you like. Or ask me anything you'd like to know.
