In praise of podfic (and of recognizing one's limits) : comments [Passing For Normal]

And wow, I am so much looking forward to your reading of Wide Open Space. Hmm, as for the other one...well, if you go for a classic, I'd love to hear Haven. I can't tell how many words it is, though? I tried C&P it into Word, but it didn't give me a wordcount. : ( Surely it must be over 20,000, though? Or Foreign Territory, that's always good, too, but I'm not sure it's long enough. Hmm, and I was going to say "After the Nile", but that's rather too long, probably. There are some great Big Bang stories from previous years--there's Spuffy's Buffy crossover, for example, and Dessert_first's science fiction AU with Fraser as an integrated ship's pilot. And obviously I'd be over the moon if you did one of my big bang stories.

And hey, if you want to do a collaboration over something long with alternating POV, I am your woman. : )

Haven has long been on my things-to-record list; I even got explicit permission a while back. But it wouldn't work for this since it's only about 16K words. And I thought of After the Nile, too, but I'm a little intimidated by the length since I'm committed to three sizeable podfics in a limited period of time. More Joandarck podfic would be wonderful, though. *wistful*

I hadn't thought of Foreign Territory... oh, damn, it's just over 19,400 words. Phooey.

I'll poke around in past Big Bang fics; that's a good idea.

Or... do you have an alternating POV fic in mind? *intrigued*

ETA: My first thought was "Scrabble" but my head hurts just thinking about the editing it would take, especially since it'd be cool to make two versions, one with Fraser-then-Ray and the other with Ray-then-Fraser, so people could listen either way. Oh, yikes. O_O

Huh, After the Nile is actually in alternating POV! I am kind of confused as to the length, though, because here it says that it's 42,000 words, but if you add up the wordcounts on the parts posted on her LJ, you get 61,000 words. I wonder which is correct? Anyway, I am definitely interested! Hmm, if we were to do it, would you want to be Fraser or Ray? I suppose one should split it up to see if the Fraser parts and Ray parts are of roughly equal length...

Scrabble, no, I'm not going there. I'm not sure it's actually possible to make for the same experience as on the page, and it sounds like a pain to try.
