I hate bras so much that from age 16 or thereabouts until a few years ago, I never wore one unless I was dressed for work or for an occasion where going without would be inappropriate and I couldn't layer enough to fake it. And then I'd strip the damn thing off the second I got home. I got away with it for so long because I'm on the small side of a B cup when at a relatively healthy weight, and even now at 100+ lbs more than I'd like, I'm still only a C cup. But at my age and current size, what with gravity and everything, I've bitten the bullet and now wear a bra whenever I leave the house.

Because 44C or 46C is very hard to find -- manufacturers seem to think that if your band size is that big, your boobs must be at least a D cup -- and usually heavy on synthetic fibers and other unpleasant things, I had a bitch of a time finding anything I could even tolerate.

But find it I did! At long last! And I'm so happy with what I found that I now own half a dozen bras from Decent Exposures and they are without a doubt the least uncomfortable bras I have ever owned. I got all different pretty colors, and since I get the racer back with the loop in front, they never ever ever slide off my shoulders and I can wear them under a low-cut V-neck or scoop-neck t-shirt and they look like a tank top or camisole, not like my underwear is showing. I even sent the vendor a fan letter. I am so grateful to them, I could almost weep.

And so I am sharing with all y'all, since I know most of us get more than a little frustrated with bras and fitting and comfort -- not to mention finding something pretty, if we're not in the 32A to 38C zone.

Decent Exposures makes bras in band sizes 30 through 54, cup sizes AA through L, light to firm support, in seven different all-cotton and blended fabrics. Color choices vary depending on your fabric; if you can wear cotton/Lycra, you'll have 27 colors to choose from. Price varies depending on what you order; for example, my medium-support racer back 44C is $38. And they will customize!

Note: At the moment, the web site doesn't seem to be working for me on Firefox, but it's fine on Chrome. To see all the options and colors, go through the Order process for whichever model interests you, and drop-downs will appear as you go.

Have other recommendations for bras you like, especially outside of the easy-to-fit size ranges? Feel free to share the good stuff in comments. I found Decent Exposures through someone else's LJ or DW post a while back, and thought I'd pass the good news along. More good choices are a grand thing, so please do chime in with yours.

oooh! just in time for me. my old go-to brand of bra decided it didn't want to do quality any more & was falling apart after 2 launderings. I don't have the budget to let me buy bras that often!

Yeah, it can burn up the budget really fast, can't it? I hope they work out for you as well as they have for me. They will alter it for you, if what you've ordered just needs tweaking and you haven't worn it yet. Or if you've worn it, they'll still alter it but charge you a few bucks, and from then on they'll have a record of how you need your bras customized. They're good folks.

DE is my favorite! My boobs and ribs are of a size that it's hard to find the size in most stores, harder still to find a bra without underwire, and nearly impossible to find in cotton. DE not only has all that, but gobs of options! And they are super nice people.

You have stated the problem in a nutshell! Drove me bonkers until I found DE. Was it through Synecdochic's post? Can't remember, but anyway: Awesomeness!

Support without underwire? In cotton? In colors? *dolphin noises*

I may swoon. Seriously, O.M.G.!

$38.00 is not a bad price for a good bra.

I'm used to getting mine mail-order from Victoria's Secret because they're the only place (so far) I've found both cotton and a reasonable (not perfect, but pretty good) fit, without a lot of itchy lace at the edges, on my budget.

But I think I could do 38 bucks if the fit is better, plus cotton. \o/

Hey, it's worth a shot. They're lovely people, and I haven't looked at their return and exchange policy, but I can only imagine that it's as reasonable as they are about everything else.

OMG they turn them into swimwear too! Real swimwear for those of us who, you know, actually get wet and move. Best best best.

Thanks for the rec!

I'm happy with my x-your-heart, but you never know when they will make a change for the worse.

AWESOME! Thanks for the heads-up. I'm rotating between 3 bras right now, and, since I work out hard twice a week now, they're giving up the ghost.
