Today's Good & Happy thing is waaaaaay up there on the awesomeness scale.
I got to have lunch with
agentotter! And also her mother, who I liked enormously, because they are traveling together.
For those of you who might not know, I was lucky enough to have Otter as my housemate for, what, three years or so? She is a delightful fanperson and a brilliant artist and author and just an all around good soul. If you haven't read her fic yet, you're missing out. She's written in the Gateverse, Teen Wolf, a bit of dS/C6D, and other fandoms. She is Otter on AO3.
Anyway, I hadn't seen her in something like two years and it was just wonderful to get to hang out and visit. (For the record, she's looking great. She has adorable short hair these days and it looks incredibly cute.) Now they're off on the next leg of their roadtrip around the western states, and I wish them both happy travels.
On the other hand, after I got home, something happened that was simply and utterly bizarre.
So I'm sitting at my desk, catching up on LJ and DW, and I hear this kind of soft rattling sound, like a shower of small gravel, maybe. It sounds like it's coming from inside the house. I go poke around and find glistening bits of mystery shiny something on the kitchen floor, and when I look up from that spot, there's even more on the front of the oven, little bits of what look like broken glass just below the oven door, sitting on the top edge of the warming drawer.
I open the oven door, and there's even more rattling, and more little fragments of glass come showering out the bottom of the door. Some land in the oven, some on the warming drawer, a lot on the floor. The outer panel of glass on the oven door is intact. The inner panel is intact. WTF?
Well, it turns out that there must have been a third panel on the inside of the oven door, and it was safety glass, and it shattered into a myriad wee fragments. So the safety part worked... but WHY did it break? I have no freaking clue! The last time I used the oven was over 24 hours ago, and that was a very ordinary 350F for 45 minutes, nothing remarkable or hard on the oven. It's been sitting there untouched ever since, everything turned off. The house has been at a stable, boring 70-ish temperature for pretty much that whole time. No earthquakes, not even wee tiny microquakes.
So why did it break all of a sudden, out of the blue, with absolutely nothing happening? I have no idea. Nothing, nada, zip, zilch, bupkis. I am in the zero clue zone. What the actual, universe? WHAT?
Good thing I don't believe in the supernatural, so I can rule out a poltergeist. *g*

Your mysteriously shattering oven glass piqued my curiosity. Apparently it's not uncommon. My first thought was built up stress that finally let go.
But at least you're not alone:
