+ OMG DOG SHOW!!! Weekend trip to San Francisco (or slightly south thereof) to see ALL THE DOGS at the annual Golden Gate Kennel Club Dog Show. HAPPINESS.
- Attn Cow Palace: Those ramps of yours? Those cannot possibly be ADA compliant! Too steep by far! Essentially useless "hand rails." And no elevators. YOU SUCK.
- Consequence of above: ALL OF THE PAIN IN THE WORLD. Recuperating slowly. I need new hips (please!!!) and new knees. Know anyone doing that for free?
= On balance, worth it a hundred times over. Will happily do it again next year.
- I hate big earthquakes. And fuck you, experts in that field, because that 5.7 that just knocked a bunch of stuff off my shelves and rattled the daylights out of my nerves was not in any way "moderate." Also, John and Rodney toppled down behind the entertainment center and I have no idea how I'll get them out. I wonder what they're doing back there? *eyebrow waggle*
+ While I really miss being able to have a nerve-settling glass of wine, there is a lot to be said for a lovely cup of tea. And a phone call with local bestie, who rode out the same quake, so we could help settle each other's nerves. Sometimes there's no substitute for other people.
+ A few weeks ago, my beloved goddog Indy Anna Jane tore the cranial cruciate ligament in her left hind leg. She is twelve, ancient for a Rottweiler, and has a congenital breathing problem, so surgery was not an option. We thought we were about to lose her, but she has defied all odds and all expectations and is slowly but steadily recuperating -- and through it all, remains extraordinarily cheerful. She is our exclamation mark with fur, and we are infinitely grateful that she is not leaving us yet.
- There are few things worse for my day-to-day morale than rodents invading my house. And apparently they're having an irruption year, because everybody hereabouts is having problems. They should all have the decency to stay the hell outside and be owl fodder like nature intended.
+ Electronic rodent trap. Hell, YES. I would send cookies to the inventor if I knew who it was.

Glad Indy is doing well!

It's a benched show, which means that the whole idea is for the dogs to be available for the public to see and (when allowed) visit with. A lot of them are, indeed, pettable! :-D
But it's all up to the handlers/owners. Dogs get exhausted (and sometimes cranky) from the 9-hour days of constant stimulation. And if it's a coated breed, like a poodle, that a groomer has fussed over for hours? Don't even think about touching.
We were hanging with friends who have Rottweilers, including a pair of 2-year-old littermate girls, Holly and Espy, who have vast appetites for petting and snuggling, so they got lots of social action and made lots of friends. Their 6-year-old uncle Ty and 7-year-old aunt Irish took shorter shifts visiting and longer shifts napping in their crates.
They would have loved (lurrrrvvved!) for you to come and snuggle them, especially if you had treats in your pocket. *g*

So cool that you got to see the dog show (aside from the ouchies). It's been ages since I've been to one. We used to have them out here when I was a kid, and my folks and I used to go, but it's been a long time since we had any locally. Come to think of it, it's been a long time since the horse shows, too. Hmmm, now I'm wondering why that is. :/
Ugh, rodent trespassers! Mice and field rats are very cute outside. I hope the electronic traps do the trick!

Dog shows -- and horse shows! -- are such fun and joyous things, aren't they? There's a big, prestigious conformation show in your neck o' the woods once a year; I've seen pics and the show is ridiculously gorgeous. I'm lucky my local bestie keeps herself informed of when there will be shows and obedience/rally trials and agility trials and pretty much anything else involving dogs, and brings me along so we can spectate. :-)
The zap-trap has already taken care of one mouse. Unfortunately, I doubt it's the last. At least I don't have to look at their wee corpses; I can just dump straight into a plastic bag. I am a total wimp about such things. I hate that I have to be the cause of their deaths. *sigh*

Big Annual Dog Show you are referring to (thanks for the PM link!) is held within walking distance of my current apartment, for crying out loud. *flails*
Note to Self for 2015: Re-engage with community events.
Mal's timely post is timely. :)

And I hope Indy Anna Jane continues to get better.
