In 30 minutes I am going to a karaoke party. At one o'clock in the afternoon. With people I mostly don't know very well. The music selections range from country to country and then some more country. Most of it older stuff. Which I mostly don't know, and what I do know, I do not love. And I have to be social and perky and have fun. And, of course, I have to do it without the assistance of alcohol.
You know, if it were at eight or nine in the evening I could smack my festive streak into wakefulness and manage to have a good time. But holy crap, it's hard at this hour. I'm only just now getting my verbal brain online. The social brain is still in deep hibernation. I'm throwing caffeine at it, but it really doesn't give a crap; it's still offline and clearly intends to stay there.
How do I get myself into these things? /rhetorical

But, you know, you can always fall back on Johnny Cash. Folsom Prison Blues, bb. It's probably too late, but here's some inspiration

I managed to find a few things I could do, a few bits of pop/rock/oldies among the country inundation. It's Too Late, House of the Rising Sun, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, and I got somebody to sing harmony with me (my very favorite; I love vocal harmony, and I love singing with people) on Country Roads and Bye Bye Love. And I went a capella on a bluesy thing that a friend wrote. I made do. *g*
It was a social obligation, and I'm glad I went; that part was worth it. And one of the folks there clued me in on a local Messiah singalong, which is a lovely thing. But wow, I wish they'd make the next one later in the day.
