I am a very lucky, very happy fangirl! I was the delighted and most grateful recipient of some correspondence between Benton Fraser of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and his dear friend Ray Kowalski.
First there's this lovely card from Fraser to Ray:

In which he wrote:

Dear Ray,
Many thanks for the postcard! However, as a function of my Canadian citizenship I am required to object strenuously to your choice of one featuring the Blackhawks. (I jest.) In all seriousness, I was touched. I had not imagined that you were a man much given to correspondence. You are a constant surprise.
As for your questions -- the training exercise goes well, though I must admit it is grating to have a temporary partner. he is perfectly competent, but we are not in synch -- not, as you say, a duet.
For the second question, yes, I do believe a couple of the women have been "hitting on" me. Surely you are not surprised that I made sure they missed.
Ray -- perhaps it is the time I've had away from you to contemplate our duet. Perhaps it is simply the upcoming lovers' holiday. But I find myself emboldened to discuss matters that -- each time I draw near them, back in Chicago, we seem to be interrupted by some spectacular malfeasance, often involving dumpsters, explosives, and --
I'm stalling. I've been stalling for months. No more.
Ray, I love you. Not merely as a friend & partner. (Though that is not mere, never mere.)
I can understand how you might need time to process this information. I do not expect a response before I return to Chicago in two weeks time. Please know that whatever your reponse, you will always be my friend and my partner. But if you share my feelings, my return will, finally, feel like coming home.
Yours,
Benton
But Ray apparently decided that he had no intention of waiting, because he sent Fraser this reply:

Frase --
HURRY HOME!
Ray

Hi! Hi to you, too! I am finally over the flu, though I was sicker than I'd been in more than 20 years and it went on for three fourths of forever. Such a relief to feel better! Not to mention getting finally getting my voice back. :-)
