A Kids' and YA Book Fic Exchange

Though personally, I am feeling very, very old after reading the brainstorming posts. I've never heard of most of what's been mentioned. Black Stallion books, anyone? Heinlein juveniles? *wistful*

I remember Farley Mowat's Black Stallion books! Read as much Farley Mowat as I could lay my hands on, as a kid. :D

Madeline L'Engle. Lloyd Alexander. Nancy Drew. Ahh, those were the days.

Farley Mowat? I was thinking of Walter Farley, myself. :D

I loved the Black Stallion books. And the Heinlein juvies. How about Encyclopedia Brown? Or the Great Brain? *sigh*

Oh, Beverly Cleary's "The Mouse and the Motorcycle." Or, Mary Norton's "The Borrowers," or John Christopher's "Tripod" books. Those were scary, and pretty much my introduction to sci-fi, in book form. I mean, I'd seen the old rubber-suit alien movies from the '50's, but the Tripods? Not the same at all.

Man, y'all have got me wanting to scoot down to the bookshop and raid the kids' section, see what's new. :)

See, you've got some there that I missed. Huh.

But yeah. Now I want to go read all my favorites from, oh, maybe ages 10-14 all over again. <3

You never forget, do you, what it was like to live in those books, sink your heart and mind and soul into them.

I guess that's why we grew up to be fangirls. :-)

You're not alone. I recognize very few of the books/series being mentioned.

When I was a kid, I was reading Jack Londonn(Call of the Wild and White Fang), Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators (I disliked both Nancy drew and the Hardy Boys), Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, etc.

I see someone's mentioned 101 Dalmatians. Somewhere buried in my boxes of books, there's a rather tattered paperback of 101 Dalmatians that I (or more accurately, my parents) bought from the Scholastic Book Club (remember that? *g*) back when I was in second grade. God, I loved that book. I should try to find it and read it again.

Scholastic Book Club! I looooooved that service! I think my mother had a love/hate relationship with them. *g* Books: Yay! Expense: *wince*

I just found a complete collection of Black Stallion books on eBay and bought them. Let's all revisit our youth! :-)
