Got the flu; got over the flu; got my flu shot. Ah, well. I'll do better next year, try to skip steps one and two.

Catching up on a buttload of Grey's Anatomy that I missed. Remembering why I hate Meredith Grey. Fortunately there's other compensation, still enough to make up for it, though sometimes the margin can be slim.

Went to the Bay Area and saw Mark Knopfler (AWESOMENESS OMG) and Bob Dylan (great music but... weird). More to follow. Must rave; also must share befuddlement.

Also went to the humongous cluster dog show in Pleasanton; a couple of friends were showing and did pretty well. So lovely to be surrounded by so many dogs. And also *cough* some of the people.

This is what a deeply happy dog looks like. This is also why I will always love the herding breeds. They live to work with you like this; it's their greatest joy.

I've had my crankypants on all day, but that video made me feel better.

How are you? What's been making you cranky? What's been making you feel better?

Awww, the dog video! *melts*

Looking forward to hearing about the concert! I've seen Dylan in concert once, and he was...not weird, that I remember? Hmm. And I'm glad the flu is over and done with.

I am mostly not cranky, I think? I have some general what-am-I-going-to-do-with-my-life-next-year anxiousness, and I'm writing a boring application, but other than that things are fine. My teaching is going well, and I've started on my dSSS story.

Hi, Luz! *waves happily*

What do you want to do with your life next? What are your options? (Feel free to ignore if you don't want to chat about it here.)

One of these days I'm going to dive into the big bang stories... but I'm having issues with my current meds and I think I have to change. Again. Which has me kind of despairing. I had hopes for the current one, and hope is a dangerous thing, for just this reason. So it goes.

I'm delighted that you're happily writing, and happy to be writing. <3

Gah, I'm so sorry to hear that about your meds not working, and yeah, I remember your hopes when you changed last. It really sucks that it didn't work out.

Well, my current job (university teaching) ends at the end of January, and I might not be able to stay there in the spring. I can't stay there doing temp jobs forever, anyway, and there are no long-term jobs available there that I could apply to. I haven't been enthusiastic about research for a while, and you do need to publish in order to succeed in the competition for a university position. Gah, I hate that pressure. Then again, I think I could find research fun again in the right social environment, but it's hard to find that. I love teaching, and I'm good at it, but I need to be careful about my voice (though that's actually worked fine so far this semester). Anyway, I've been thinking about what I could do that isn't in academia, but haven't really hit on anything yet. I'm fine financially even if I'm unemployed for a while, so that isn't the problem (sharing an apartment with four other people, I don't use most of my salary anyway) but I don't like the uncertainty. I do have a job interview in November for a permanent teaching position at a small university down south, so we'll see how that goes.

Awww! That video is fab!

I've heard that Knopfler is pretty awesome before, and am looking forward to the details.

I've been watching it daily since I found it. It's therapeutic. *g*

Knopfler is AMAZING and so are the seven fabulously talented guys who played with him. Brilliant, one and all. Such a joyous thing. <3

Also: Hi! *hugs*

Heeee, border collie moonlighting as a yoga instructor. Diefenbaker takes classes.

Sorry about the flu, but Yay! about getting to see Mark Knopfler! \o/

Work is making me feel cranky - oh man, I am so not an accountant, and yet, I am, Monday through Friday. Ugh. BUT that's okay. I'll live.

Went to the nursery, bought some green plants for indoors, and some cheery impatiens (purple and red) for outdoors. Spiffed up all the potted plants next to my front door, along the common walkway. They look most cheerful, and my neighbors get a kick out of them, so yay me! Makes all the difference, really. :)

Have begun dabbling in writing Avengers. Fun, so far. \o/

Dief would laugh at Fraser if he tried to get him to do this. But he would secretly think the border collie was awesome. He might admit that to Ray, but certainly not to Fraser.

Accounting... is not my idea of a good time, either. :-( I hope it's not the largest part of your job.

Plants! Plants are such happy things! You can grow impatiens in the winter, oh you lucky thing. That is such a happy image. :-)

Local friend Suzi and I dropped by the garden center today and I got my amaryllis bulb and a pretty new pot that should be heavy enough to keep the whole caboodle from toppling over when it gets tall. I went for a deep red this time; should be pretty.

Avengers, eh? What's your pairing and/or focus character(s)? There's all kinds of room for a good time in that fandom, isn't there?

Alas, accounting IS my job. At least I managed to kick our monthly general ledger's butt this month, instead of the other way around. \o/!!!

Avengers has room for ALL the fun people combinations! It is a veritable smorgasboard of possibilities. So tasty! Thus far, I've only written two thingies, both of them prompted by fan_flashworks challenges. For the first I got inspired by a wish Sage had made on her journal, where Sarah Jane Smith steals the Tardis and brings Bucky and Peggy forward for Steve.

The second is a Tony/Steve with added Wolverine and Darcy. Tony/Steve is probably going to end up my go-to pairing for my own writing, but I enjoy rather a long list of other pairings as well. I do have some small reservations about the age difference between Tony and Steve. It largely gets ignored in fics, and maybe it shouldn't be a big deal, but it's nearly a 20 year difference, and that's substantial. It makes me "Hmmmm...." sometimes, but they're just too much fun together for me not to go there. A lot. *cough*

oh, yay! I LOVE Kikopup! Have you seen her other videos? She does fun work with her Chihuahua and her other little terrier mix too. Although I do agree that Splash the Border Collie is her superstar.
