What do you want to do with your life next? What are your options? (Feel free to ignore if you don't want to chat about it here.)
Well, my current job (university teaching) ends at the end of January, and I might not be able to stay there in the spring. I can't stay there doing temp jobs forever, anyway, and there are no long-term jobs available there that I could apply to. I haven't been enthusiastic about research for a while, and you do need to publish in order to succeed in the competition for a university position. Gah, I hate that pressure. Then again, I think I could find research fun again in the right social environment, but it's hard to find that. I love teaching, and I'm good at it, but I need to be careful about my voice (though that's actually worked fine so far this semester). Anyway, I've been thinking about what I could do that isn't in academia, but haven't really hit on anything yet. I'm fine financially even if I'm unemployed for a while, so that isn't the problem (sharing an apartment with four other people, I don't use most of my salary anyway) but I don't like the uncertainty. I do have a job interview in November for a permanent teaching position at a small university down south, so we'll see how that goes.
